On Galentine’s Day, Celebrating Service and Love for Community

On the evening of February 12, the volunteer group at the Maryland Food Bank was feeling the love.
The food bank held its second annual Galentine’s Day Event, a special volunteer shift specifically for women who love community and giving back. Galentine’s Day sets aside time, one day before Valentine’s Day, for women to celebrate special friendships with their female friends.
This year, more than 40 donors volunteers packed 3,640 pounds of brown rice—equivalent to 3,050 meals for Marylanders. Having the rice easily portioned makes it easier for the Maryland Food Bank to distribute through its network of more than 760 community-based partners. ![]()
“Food is love. And the love isn’t just flowers and brunch—it’s showing up, it’s community, it’s making sure someone else is okay. As we celebrate Galentine’s Day, let’s celebrate supporting each other in many areas of life.”
